Marketing is constantly changing and figuring out how to engage with your customers is something you need to iterate on frequently.

What Is Digital Marketing?

The simple definition of digital marketing is the promotion of a company using the internet. Digital marketing can include any number of the following marketing channels:

What Is Mobile Marketing in Simple Terms?

There are numerous ways to market to your customers. Mobile marketing is just one type of marketing. Simply put, mobile marketing is when a company promotes its products and services via a mobile device.

There are various ways a company can engage in mobile marketing. These different ways can include mobile advertising, mobile apps, SMS campaigns, mobile push notifications, QR codes, etc.

It is important for businesses to recognize that not every type of mobile marketing will work well for their business. When determining your mobile marketing strategy, you have to consider what channels and tactics will resonate best with your target audience. If this is a new approach for your business, you may have to try numerous options first and see which works best for your business.

There are several mobile marketing software platforms available that can help your business easily manage all aspects of mobile marketing. These different aspects of mobile marketing can range from building apps and running SMS campaigns to push notifications and mobile ads.

What Is An Example of Mobile Marketing?

According to Investopedia, the definition of mobile marketing “is any advertising activity that promotes products and services via mobile devices, such as tablets and smartphones.” A simple way to think of it is that mobile marketing consists of multiple mobile channels, including mobile advertising, mobile apps, SMS campaigns, mobile push notifications, QR codes, mobile searches, and more. Many companies utilize one or more mobile marketing tools to help them effectively promote their products and services to their customers via mobile channels.

Snickers and Spotify are two companies that used a couple of different mobile marketing channels to engage with their customers. Let's discuss some of the mobile app marketing examples they used during this campaign. Snickers called the campaign “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry.” Spotify used its mobile app to recognize when the user was listening to a music genre that was not like the usual ones they listened to. When this happened they would play an ad that drove home the message of “You’re not you when you’re hungry.” The user could then click on a call to action button that directed them to a playlist called “Hunger Hits” to get them back on track to their usual playlist.  According to MoEngage, this campaign generated around 7 billion overall impressions and around 2 billion unique reaches.

Ford is another brand that uses a few different mobile marketing channels. They encouraged their target audience to text “FORD” to a specific number to learn more about their cars. By texting this number, the company was able to get more information about its prospective customers, including their names, zip codes, and the type of vehicle they were interested in. After some time, the sales dealers would take over and work to close out the deal. If a customer stopped engaging, they would send out additional texts to re-engage with the customer. According to Tatango.com, this mobile marketing campaign saw a 15.4 percent conversion rate.
