Love is in the air! 💘 That’s right, we’re back with another roundup of our summer mobile brand crushes.
Let’s take a stroll down memory lane before we jump into this year’s crushes, shall we? Last year, we were enamored by brands like Burger King who were creating mobile experiences to incentivize people to stay at home.
While our world begins to regain some sort of normalcy, the theme of this summers’ brand crushes is still geared towards our fellow homebodies. Let’s dive into our top mobile brand crushes of the summer!
Zoom Launches a PWA
Name one person who hasn’t used Zoom in the past year. *crickets* Everyone and their brother has been a part of a meeting hosted on the Zoom platform. Zoom became a household name almost overnight, and their reign is far near over (at least in our eyes). Zoom recently announced the launch of its Progressive Web App (PWA) and we could not be more ecstatic.
It’s not a secret we have a thing for PWAs. There’s a million reasons why brands should ditch their native mobile apps for PWAs; they load lightning fast, use minimal storage, are installable to users’ home screens...should I keep going?
There’s a handful of features that are exclusive to the PWA, but by far the favorite is support for virtual backgrounds on Chromebooks. Even though we are over a year into the pandemic, I guess some people still aren’t comfortable putting their homes on display for their coworkers. 🤷♀️
Sprite’s Newest QR Code Campaign
Can you believe in-person concerts are a thing again? For those who prefer to enjoy their favorite bands from the comfort of their couches (AKA yours truly), concerts are continuing to be live-streamed for at-home entertainment. And you know what pairs nicely with a concert? A cold Sprite (and maybe your favorite pair of sweatpants).
By now, we all know and love QR codes. QR code marketing can unlock so many experiences including Progressive Web Apps (PWAs), shoppable TV experiences, wayfinding, and so much more.
Sprite is taking a page from our beverage industry playbook and introducing QR codes to the back of their bottles. These scannable mobile experiences unlock access to live-streamed concerts, merchandise giveaways, and a few other cool perks if you’re one of the lucky ones to secure the specialized bottles. Sprite made our summer brand crushes because it understands how powerful QR code technology can be for delivering an exceptional customer experience.
HBO Max’s Blast from the Past Using SMS
The year is 2010. The bus has just dropped you off from a long day at high school and you want to unwind by catching up on last night’s episode of Gossip Girl.
Fast forward to 2021, you want to unwind from a long day WFH with the reboot of Gossip Girl (or maybe that’s just me 💁♀️ ). But there’s a bonus! Lovers of the American drama series can text in to receive exclusive content about the reboot. Plus, if you call the number you can hear a familiar voice that will leave you nostalgic for the early 2010s.
SMS is another lucrative channel for mobile marketers out there. On average, SMS has an open rate of about 98 percent and texts are read within three seconds, according to Adobe. Those are pretty impressive numbers.
There you have it - our summer lineup of mobile brand crushes! These brands prove mobile is king when it comes to capturing the attention of consumers (and a no-code mobile app platform 😉 ).
