I am talking directly to all the marketers out there when I say, stop taking yourself so seriously. I think sometimes in marketing we feel like we always need to be perfect. Like we need to have perfect, high-quality ads, our prospecting efforts need to be flawlessly scripted, almost like we can’t let people know we are human. I am here to tell you it doesn’t have to be this way. Think about the campaigns, social posts, or outreach that stands out to you the most. Is it the perfectly scripted campaigns or the stuff that feels real, and feels like a real person is behind it? I guarantee almost every one resonates more with the real stuff. So can we all agree to stop being so serious and have a little fun with our marketing efforts? One way to do this is to dive into the world of TikTok like Lauren Pope, Content Marketing Manager at G2. On the Real Marketers podcast, Lauren shares how TikTok can be for all brands, not just B2C companies. You just have to be willing to give it a try.
Give TikTok a Try, It Won’t Hurt You
So many marketers seem to be so afraid of TikTok because it’s not a “serious” marketing platform. Well, guess what, while you are sitting there thinking you are too good for TikTok, brands are on there seeing a ton of engagement and overall success from the social platform. TikTok is whatever you make it. When you make a video you can make it as serious or as goofy as you want it to be, and either way, it will grab someone’s attention. Plus, there is really nothing to lose by making a few TikTok videos and seeing what happens. You don’t have to pay for it, you don’t have to make a professional video, the stakes are so low. So stop worrying about how you are too good for the platform, and just try it! You never know what will happen.
Get Creative With Your Resources
TikTok is like any other social media platform, so you might have to be a little creative with your resources. If you don’t have a social media manager or content manager on your marketing team, it might be tricky to keep up with posting new content every day. But, that doesn’t mean you have to blow the platform off. You can be on TikTok without posting anything. Instead of using it as a content platform, you can use it to follow trends in your industry (if there is a new trend these days it probably started on Tik Tok). Or you can use TikTok videos for other purposes. Lauren shared some great ideas like using it to create prospecting videos or running special promotions. Especially if you are a smaller company there are so many creative ways you can use your resources to make things work for you.
Even if TikTok isn’t right for your company right now, I still challenge you to get more creative with your marketing and stop making everything so serious. If you want to hear more tips about TikTok or content marketing in general, you can listen to Lauren’s full Real Marketers episode here.
